Gait Analysis Project
Evidence- The question each group was trying to answer was-- What is a persons gait and how does it differ compared to other people? Our goal was to explore and compare the way people walk. This is known as there gait. A gait is a person’s manner of walking. To begin our project we started phase one by learning more and analyzing what exactly made people’s walk different from one another. To solve this question we were instructed to download an acceleration app that would analyze data on how different people walk. Our group then tested multiple people, guys and girls, measuring the exact characteristics they have in each step when they walk. We analyzed all our data then displayed it into a gantt chart listed below. By analyzing, our group would look if people walked with their feet turned inwards or out, swayed their hips, walked on their toes vs. heels, or had a bounce in their step. We tested both guys and girl of different heights and sizes to vary our results. Our group then created the gait analysis report and our mini presentation to present to the class.
For our final product we created a graph of our data comparing stride length to height, including a line of best fit.The main features of our final product were how we walk, factors that make us walk different, recognizing other people’s walk, and what different parts in their step you could visually see. Once we had gathered all our data and input our information we were all set to make our graphs and analyze our data. We began our analysis of our groups new overarching question: How can height affect gait?

acceleromator: device that measures acceleration in the three axis (x,y,z)
x: forwards and backwards
y: up and down
z: left and right
gait: a person´s manner of walking (distinguishing qualities)
leg length: length of a person´s leg. As a group we measured leg length from the the top of their hips to their toes.
height: how tall a person is. This was a distinguishing quality that drastically changed the data for our gait analysis. We measured in centimeters from the the top of their head to the floor.
